In the last few years at NHPR, I’ve focused largely on data and accountability reporting projects. Along the way, I’ve…
Built a lobbying disclosure database from scratch, because the one provided by the state is almost impossible to navigate, and used that as a jumping-off point for reporting about the lack of oversight of the special interests trying to influence New Hampshire public policy.
Shed light on the spread of a private equity-backed healthcare staffing company sticking unsuspecting New Hampshire residents with surprise medical bills, State House officials’ spotty record addressing allegations of harassment, and flip-flops by Democratic and Republican politicians alike.
Produced stories about lawmakers who, in no particular order: openly solicited campaign contributions from lobbyists, openly voted on legislation to benefit their own financial interests and openly spent campaign donations on things like car repairs and floral arrangements.
Dug into allegations of election fraud in Dixville Notch (yes, that Dixville Notch) — and took the time to report out the real story behind the live shots that plaster cable news networks ahead of the New Hampshire primary every four years.
Collaborated with colleagues to turn my ongoing beat coverage of one of the most quietly powerful (and enigmatic) figures in American politics into the lead episode of our narrative podcast about the New Hampshire primary — for which I played the roles of researcher, co-editor and lead fact-checker.
But I also worked on lots of other stories, too.

Stranglehold, a podcast about the New Hampshire primary:
Episode 1: The Guardian drew heavily on my original reporting and research covering the New Hampshire Secretary of State’s office.
I was the lead reporter on Episode 3: The Midnight Special and Episode 15: What’s It Worth?
I contributed reporting to Episode 5: The Weekend, Episode 7: The Office, Episode 9: The Crescendo, Episode 10: The Moldy Cookie.
Along the way, I also helped with editing and fact-checking on several episodes. One I’m most proud to have been part of was Episode 12: The Outsiders, which challenged what passes for normal political discourse in New Hampshire.
